Nick Gabrichidze
Nick is an artist, free lance journalist and left-wing political activist from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Being true "citizen of the World" Nick Gabrichidze is not limiting himself by the patriotism to any particular nation: his projects are widspread all over the World. The "Gabrichidze art centre" is soon to be launched in the "European capital"- Brussels; Nick had completed murals in West Hollywood, California, he is submitting his fiction novels to the publishers in many different countries, including China and Australia. However there is some sentimental feeling in the bottom of his heart towards Nick Gabrichidze’s country of origin, former Soviet republic of Georgia. Nevertheless Nick has also the great appreciation forAmsterdam-the ever young, tolerant and multicultural city which allowed Nick to exercise and develop his creativity and talents.
Since 2001 Nick Gabrichidze is involved with an "online journalism", changing the public opinion through active participation in the internet forums and political message boards. At 2004 Nick Gabrichidze became member of Dutch Labour party (social-democrats).  Last autumn he was running for a seat the local "gemeente" - Amsterdam’s city counsel. Even though victory went to more experienced candidates for a time being, Nick Gabrichidze has a hope to win the future campaigns. Keeping the allegiance to the online journalism N. Gabrichidze has launched the blog called “Hitchhikers guide to the Dutch politics”. It is intended to be a source of information about his recent political adventure and ironic impressions of high ranking politicians. Combining  art with his political campaign Nick Gabrichidze converted his political program into the “Amsterdam 2020” essay; (soon it will be available at this website): Nick Gabrichidze "Amsterdam 2020” is an utopist, fiction-style fantasy image of future Amsterdam; this piece of political fiction is provocative but also very optimistic. On the more serious note some of the Nicks propositions, particularly about debt consolidation schemes have been integrated into the program of Amsterdam's social democrats for coming 4 years.
Seeing art as an oldest form of civil communication between different social groups, and being a bit of the anarchist Nick Gabrichidze is working for the re-birth of non-establishment, non-government, and non-corporate “public art”. Gabrichidze wants to remove all existing political or commercial filters like agency and gallery mediation or other censorship between artist and general public. According to Nick Gabrichidze art is not only the form of the individual self-expression, but is also important tool for creating the public opinion and hence changing a political climate. In the past 11 years Nick Gabrichidze completed more then 50 public art projects in the community centres, theatres and other public locations in Amsterdam and California.
